This isn't an actual species thing; it's more of... gosh, I hate to say this... it's more of a caste system; the castes themselves are species/classes. Shieldmaidens aren't a species - they are a rank within Middle-earth, not within the boards.

I've been on a couple of these lists.One Gaby's (I think it was Gaby) she named me an "Orcish elf", which quite caught me by surprise.On the mysterious MatrixMaster's list, I was an Elf  .I think, reading your definitions, that "Nobleman" suits me best.

Most of my nominations are for High Elf/rising Maia, so if there are no objections I'd like to be added to this list under this category. Aule's comments not withstanding, I think that being made a Maia too quickly may devalue this honorable ranking. Since I'm at my six week mark I think High Elf is an excellent place for me to place, and will give me something to work up to in the future.

The photo is very flattering - no scars are visible, and the long sleeves hide the MojoJojo tattoo on my arm....
No full (5 piece) reunion yet, Dirt, but we have been playing as a 3 piece at the world famous Scotia Bar recently - acoustic sets of old folk tunes with me on my fiddle and banjo, and the two new boys on accordian and guitar.
I've been working (and then holidaying) in Cuba since the start of April and I'm not long back, so I'm just trying to get my head round the Scottish weather again....I can see AiC becoming a Salsa&Western thrash punk bank now....

I'm totally happy being a Maiar, seeing how I don't profess to knowing everything about LOTR and the other books. I would like to add a new title to the list, however. I would like to be titled as "Maiar, MTK" - Master Troll Killer. I've dusted off / converted plenty of trolls without reporting them. I nailed a pesky bugger the other day on the 1978 board in about 20 minutes by using harsh reverse psychology on him. My bag of tricks is deep and effective. I even befriended Wommy when he was still getting booted every other day.

I actually like the premise of this thread.
It's very well made, and I don't think I ever congratulated Sirritus for starting the whole thing.

Looking at that thread, it's pretty clear that Sirritus just wanted some way of knowing who's more knowledgeable in the ways of the board.
It pretty much was a self-nomination thing, you just put yourself in the category you think fits you best. Of course, Sirritus also left room for nominations, knowing that the most knowledgeable regulars probably would be too modest too say where they really belong.
If you look at the definitions from Hobbit to Elf, the main difference is how much experience you have on the board. And as a practical matter, anyone can really nominate themselves into any one of these categories. As is reflected in the list, most of the regulars here should be elves. But some regulars like being thought of as men or hobbits, so it's not exactly a strict classification, though it's still useful as a general guide.
Like I said, anyone can nominate themselves wherever they want in this range; so they can always move themselves up, or down .
As with regards to the higher categories, I think that's what Sirritus really wanted to know. Though I think he could just have asked athene, which is what I did back when I was a newbie and needed help.
Which brings us to the Valar, all of which have been put there by athene. She should know better than anyone who goes there, and that's really all there needs to be said on that subject. Though if you have questions, it wouldn't be such a bad idea to ask her
And finally are the Maiar, since they more or less have to be nominated by the board, I guess there is an element of popularity involved. But just because they're popular, doesn't mean they don't fit Sirritus's definition now does it?
